From the Podium

Dear Northview Choir Students and Parents,

Greetings from the choir room! This semester is going by quickly and the choirs have been busy this fall. We kicked off our 2011-2012 school year with our Great American Fundraiser sale, which was successful. The efforts of all of our students and parents were much appreciated. We will need a few students and parents to help with unloading and product distribution on our delivery date, October 19th. We will send you an email with the delivery time soon! If you are available to help unload and distribute on October 19th, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators Jill McCready and Lisa Przyojski or me.

Our first graded evening choral concert for Symphonic Choir and A Cappella Choir is Thursday October 27 at 7pm in the Northview PAC. Students are to arrive at 5:45pm and the doors will open to the public at 6:30pm. I am pleased to announce that we are sharing this first concert with Southview’s Symphonic Choir under the direction of 2004 Northview graduate, Lindsay Andrews (Sanderson). If you are interested in helping to supervise this event, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators Jill McCready and Lisa Przyojski or me. Please double check with your children to make sure that they have all of the uniform pieces needed for the concert. Men are responsible for providing their own black choir shoes and a white tuxedo shirt (available at Men’s Warehouse by the Franklin Park Mall) and Women are responsible for providing their own black character shoes (available at Opening Night Dancewear--3550 Executive Pkwy # 1, Toledo). A Cappella Women need to order their jewelry by filling out and mailing the booster registration form. Often these purchases are a one-time event. If properly taken care of, your child can wear these items for years. However, if you ordered shoes in previous years, you may want to try them on to see if they still fit. If not, there is still just enough time to order new ones.

At this early point in the school year Harmony Road Show has already sung two major performances! They sang for students and parents at Northview’s Open House on September 14th (and surprised me by writing their own on-the-spot rendition of “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey) and the following Friday they sang the Northview Alma Mater and “Written in the Stars” (complete with rapping and beatboxing) for the Homecoming assembly. This performance was truly special as our own Blayne Weddington and Annie Babcock were on the Homecoming court and shared the solo on the Alma Mater while Blake Rodgers and Davidson Baker wrote a rap tailor-made for the occasion. The day would not have run nearly as well without the hard work of our technical crew, Mackenzie Apel, Kyle Lammie, and Jai Strong. In my five years at Northview, I have never heard the student body cheer for Harmony Road Show as they did at this year’s Homecoming assembly. In that moment, I found myself feeling so grateful that our programs were saved from last year’s cuts. We can continue to make fantastic music together thanks to the support of fellow students, parents, and community members. Thank you for supporting us!

Sincerely,

Dawn Kingman
