From the Podium

Dear Northview Choir Parents and Students,

It was great to see so many of you at Open House last week. If you were unable to attend, here’s a brief overview of what was covered in my “Northview Choirs’ At-a-Glance” sessions:

I gave the students and parents in attendance my schedule for the academic year. I have some degree of flexibility during the early afternoon hours and am happy to meet with and/or talk with parents over the phone during 6th, 7th, or 8th periods. Our 2009-2010 schedule is as follows:

Period Class Enrollment
1 AP Music Theory Accelerated Juniors and Seniors
2 Northview Women’s Chorus Women only, Grades 9-12
3 A Cappella Choir Auditioned Juniors and Seniors
Honors A Cappella Choir Auditioned Juniors and Seniors (extra requirements)
4 Symphonic Choir Auditioned Women Grades 10-12
Auditioned Men Grades 9-12
5 Study Hall
6 Instructor’s Lunch
7 Ensemble (extra help)
8 Conference
9 Harmony Road Show Students Grades 10-12.
Highly selective audition process.

The rest of my open house presentation dealt with information management. I try to return all emails and phone calls within 24 hours. However, here are some resources for staying up-to-date and finding out everything that you would ever need to know about Northview Choirs and your child’s progress:

  1. Our website, www.nvchoir.org, contains (but is not limited to)
    • Handbook
    • Forms
    • Grading
    • Calendar of Events
    • Learning Tracks
    • Parent Newsletters (“In-Choirer”)
    • Director Announcements (“From the Podium”)
    • Booster News
    • Course Descriptions
    • Links (sheet music, research aids, choir photography)
    • AP Theory Resource Materials
  2. Use Esis, the Sylvania Schools’ newly implemented online grading tool, to keep track of your students’ grades and upcoming assignments. Information on accessing Esis can be found at http://www.sylvania.k12.oh.us/PAM/

Thanks again for all of your support and appreciation for the arts at Northview. Happy Fall!

Sincerely,

Dawn Gallehue
